Just a heads-up for anybody shopping for good -R media in the U.S.

Spindle of 50 Ridata 4X -R silver matte, $46.50 with free shipping from www.newegg.com

Price good 2/3/04 only. I predict a sellout before the day is over, these sell for $53+ most places.

#2

I also predict that this price will keep coming down due to number of drives sold lately. DVD disks have gotten more demand, thus manufactures start to make more and so on.

If you don’t need more disk yet, wait a while. I bet in 2 months the price will come down even more than this.

#3

I bought them now because I needed them now.

Personally, I can’t understand why people pay $2 apiece or more to buy 10 discs at a time in jewel boxes when they can get a spindle of quality discs and a pack of cases and save money in the process.

The deal I posted, now expired, was for 93 cents per disc in a spindle of 50, less than other online vendors charge for buying 100 at a time. At Office Max this week, a pack of 100 slimline jewel cases was $8 with an $8 rebate, or free.

Yes, the cost of media is going down. But when you need it, it’s smart to look for – and share – the good deals.

In Italy: 50 Ritek G04 = 86€ :°°°°

Simple; ignorance.

There’s still PLENTY of people out there that have no clue about finding better prices by utilizing the internet.

Oh, the wonders taking a course in economics can do for you… ^^

Well, for anyone wondering whether it was good media, I have one word:

WOW!

#8

What speed was that media burned at? 4x or 8x?

#9

It’s DVD-R, so 4X.

#10

Nice burns for 4x…

This is a pic of RicohJPNR01 4x DVD+R burned at 8x with LiteOns HS0P and set to DVD-ROM Booktype… Scanned at 4x at 8ECC with HS0P… All my burns have spikes, is this burner or media related? Im asking cause your burn doesnt have any…

#11

Everybody gets spikes, but that pattern where they show up at regular, predictable intervals is uncommon.

I don’t see that pattern on my setup, but I have seen a lot of scans that do show it in this forum and at AtomicPC. There has been a fair amount of speculation on what causes them.

Nobody seems to know for sure, but it seems to be hardware specific. Some have suggested unstable power supplies, bad IDE cables, funky chipset issues, too much grease on the rods in the drive itself, etc.

The only thing that people seem to agree on is that some users see spikes and others don’t. The one that do can’t seem to get rid of them, though some combinations of firmware and media make them less obvious.

Another open question is whether they really hurt anything. You max PI is quite good, spikes or not, and the PO is fine except for two random spikes that shouldn’t be cause for concern.

Like a lot of other Kprobe anomalies, my advice is if they play OK, “Don’t worry, be happy.”

#12

Its not power supply or IDE related cause I have a Antec True Power 480W PSU and Ive changed the IDE cables too…

The one spike you see in both the PI/PO in the beginning is always in my scans along with those regular spikes… As far as any problems because of them I do experience freezes during playback on my standalone…

Heres a pic of the same media burned at 4x HS0K… Same problems…

#13

I got a spindle(25) of +R Ritek overprints but had data info of RicohJPNR01 and they were crap on my 811s. I burned at 8x at 4x and 2x and they were crap. I always stick to Ritek and never had any problems.

#14

@wittangamo, could you post full mediacode please.

I´m a fan of RitekG 04. Cheap and good media. Here is my scan in ‘media’ section:

Hypnosis4U2NV, I get similar spikes as well. I don’t worry about ti because it’s not that uncommon.

That is the same spindle I bought as well (or dang close anyway).

#18

Thank you ‘wittangamo’ for info.

I´ve been searching for the same 50-pack in Europe, but only found this:
http://www.cd-rmedia.co.uk/cgi-bin2/details.pl?id=ridata4x
Price here is ~0,75£/disk + delivery

Anybody else found this kind of media [in 50-pack] in Europe?

#19

Looks like they have what you are looking for.

31.98£ for 50.
Or 0.64£ per disc.

Edit: After looking closer perhaps they aren’t the exact same as the picture above :frowning:

I was at Office Max today and they had a 100 Spindle of Arita branded 4x DVD-R… I think it was wrapped with RiData wrapping…

Is this stuff any good? Its being sold for $39.99
