Oldboy error message + clonedvd support

#1

the other day i tried to copy a korean dvd called oldboy…i scanned the disc and supposedly it was region free…

i was unable to copy this disc…i sent my error log (listed below) to the e-mail address listed for errors on one of the pages of the clonedvd software…i sent my error log to bugs@elby.ch…below is the response i received in german…a language i don’t speak or understand…fortunately i have a german to english translator and when i translate the below listed response…

Region Free kann diesen Kopierschutz nicht.

it roughly translates as…Region Free does not know this copy protection.

would i just be better off posting my error logs here, rather than sending them to the e-mail address listed above…and when it comes right down to it, if i understand the original e-mail to my error message, is this a new copy protection not yet covered by clonedvd…any and all help appreciated in advance…

@ mukooh,

You are posting in the CloneDVD Forum but I have to ask what software program are you using to decrypt and remove copy protection of the OldBoy DVD. It might be true that the subject OldBoy DVD is in fact Region Free but you still need to use some type of software program similar to AnyDVD or DVD Decrypter to decrypt and remove copy protection of the OldBoy DVD.

hi…thanks for you fast reply…i originally scanned it with dvddecrypter 3.5.4.0…and it showed it to be region free and it also showed no protection…
i also took a look at it with anydvd and it showed it no protection…

i have tried to copy the files with dvd decrypter and dvd shrink to my harddrive and i always end up with errors…sorry i don’t have those logs …that’s all the information i have right now…do you think perhaps it might be a bad disc???..i’ve tried cleaning it with toothpaste…but nothing seems to help…the dvd is kind of rare…and this is the only copy i’ve been able to find so far…

edited to add…this is a dvd decrypter log…

@ mukooh,

Your problem is that DVD Decrypter is detecting a Read Errors on your OldBoy DVD (See the last line of DVD Decrypter Log).

Have you closely inspected the OldBoy DVD for scratches? If your OldBoy DVD does have scratches see the below postings for information on how to remove the scratches.

http://www.mcgee-flutes.com/scratches.html

http://www.burningissues.net/how_to/scratchrepair/scratchrepair.htm

If after thoroughly cleaning the OldBoy DVD and DVD Decrypter still detects Read Errors you might try setting up DVD Decrypter to ignore the Read Errors. Open up DVD Decrypter Tools/Settings/ I/O /Options and Check the “Ignore Read Error Box” and then set Retires to zero. This might work if you don’t have too Error but if you have many Errors you might notice pixels or skipping during playback.

bjkg

Yes. Oldboy Korean is protected with Settec Alpha DVD. You should try AnyDVD.

Is this a bootleg copy? Single layer, Region free — this sounds suspicious.
And AnyDVD says, that this DVD is not Settec Alpha-DVD protected.

Olli…i don’t know…i rented it in a little video store in little saigon, orange county california…i’m always skeptical whether a disc is legitimate or not when i scan it with something like dvd decrypter and it shows it to be region free with no protection…but then again i’ve heard mention of a bad ifo file associated with this dvd too…
