OCZ will launch the Summit series of SSD drives, after all

There was some speculation as to if OCZ would launch the Summit series of SSD drives. There was a dilemma as where to position this drive in the market, with the OCZ Vertex performing so well.

The OCZ Summit is powered by a Samsung SSD controller and MLC NAND flash memory, and harnesses 128MB of cache. The drive will be available in 60GB, 120GB and 250GB capacities. According to OCZ, they are aiming the drive at the professional end of the market.

So far the price has not been confirmed, but it is expected the Summit will be priced just above the Vertex series, but below the Vertex EX.

The drive should be shipping in the next two weeks.

Thank for the great news. Will the Summit 250GB version cost over US$1K?
