Texas doesn’t have the right to break off as a separate nation. I believe the original agreement to join the US allowed us to divide into as many as 5 states, but that was not part of the readmission of Texas back into the Union after the Civil War, so guess what? That part is no longer valid either.
And before ya’ll get all secessiony, you have to realize that over 3 million people in Texas voted for Obama. We are very nearly split in two in terms of political beliefs, which mirrors much of what we see across the country.
The election results are not a surprise to anyone following the polls over the last few weeks. 538 (NY Times) has been pretty much spot on. Though Florida going to Obama might be a little bit unexpected. It was a very, very close race there.
But in essence, nothing much has changed. We have a Democratic president, a Senate controlled by the Democrats and the House is dominated by the Republicans. Unless they find some way to work together, we’ll be stuck in gridlock for another few years. 6 billion dollars spent, and for what?
