Well, the election is over. The people have spoken. What are you’re thoughts on the subject?

#2

Personally, I think the people have just doomed themselves.

#3

Maybe you should move to Kolob, I here it is nice…

Consider this a ‘Pre-minder’ (a reminder in advance) that MyCE is a technology oriented forum and as such not the most appropriate place to discuss politics. Should this thread degenerate into mudslinging and name calling it will get edited and/or closed. Please, let’s use it to congratulate winners and offer concession to the defeated.

I second the motion Mike.

I’m happy enough with the results. Identifying those who support monopolies isn’t a bad thing.

I’m not going to mudsling exactly but I’m not a good loser on this.
My country the USA is going to suffer the results of this election.
See how well the citizens of this country are doing 4 years from now.
See how many more trillions we are in debt .
See how much personal rights guaranteed by the Constitution suffer .
Then tell me how much Obama is liked.

It is my opinion with the start of electronic voting & certainly with electronic counting it is too easy for a president to fix an election. You might have selected Romney & your vote was actually cast for Obama . I can’t prove it but it doesn’t mean I don’t believe it . Even if this was done with every third vote for Romney it would have been more than enough.

I think the people of the US are going to get a taste of communism called socialism.

We no longer have a “Cold War” in Russia it is now here & "We the People " have lost this battle .

Since I’m a Texan & this is the only state except maybe Hawaii that came to the US as an independent country . Maybe we could legally ask to be separated from the US & be an independent nation again. This is different from succession . We Texans also want the land back that paid our debt . As Texas was larger before we were annexed by many square miles . We would want that back as well. In other words we paid our debt & joined the US a free nation. The US has more than got its money back & now it’s time for Texas to again become independent.
I don’t see this happening but all the Texas governor has to do is ask & many Texans will be right there on the front line ready to fight for independence.

Texas doesn’t have the right to break off as a separate nation. I believe the original agreement to join the US allowed us to divide into as many as 5 states, but that was not part of the readmission of Texas back into the Union after the Civil War, so guess what? That part is no longer valid either.

And before ya’ll get all secessiony, you have to realize that over 3 million people in Texas voted for Obama. We are very nearly split in two in terms of political beliefs, which mirrors much of what we see across the country.

The election results are not a surprise to anyone following the polls over the last few weeks. 538 (NY Times) has been pretty much spot on. Though Florida going to Obama might be a little bit unexpected. It was a very, very close race there.

But in essence, nothing much has changed. We have a Democratic president, a Senate controlled by the Democrats and the House is dominated by the Republicans. Unless they find some way to work together, we’ll be stuck in gridlock for another few years. 6 billion dollars spent, and for what?

The original agreement has nothing to do with the fact that Texas was an independent nation & therefore unique . The agreement as a state after the
Civil War also doesn’t affect that. Texas seceded as a state .
Texas is the only state that was an independent nation so there are actually no precedents to follow on this. It is therefore open legally .
However there are US precedents for how other countries have been delt with. Although it was acquired by war the US didn’t keep a forth of Germany or any other territory it might have from either world war.
So Texas returning to being an independent nation is not secession .
It is a return to former status which the US allowed with Germany & Japan & others
such as the Philippines . The difference is those were “spoils of war” . To me that is even more reason to allow Texas to become an independent nation. If the US can do this for countries that were enemies how much more reason is needed to allow this for a nation that joined the US as a friend ?
Of course this isn’t allowed because it does open the possibility for the other conquered nations the US still keeps as states . Those would be the “Indian” nations . Some of those even have a claim to Texas.

Edit: Not exactly split in two in Texas . The results I have are 57% Romney 4,555,799 votes to 41% Obama 3,294,440 votes . That is 1,261,359 more votes for Romney .

On a softer note Washington State passed I-502 which allows pot shops for persons over the age of 21. You can legally own up to a ounce without the county and state arresting you. But Fed laws are another story.

Although I don’t smoke marijuana I’m not opposed to making it legal .
The same way alcohol is legal .In other words I would like good accurate tests
developed & limits on how much a person is allowed to consume & drive.
As long as a person isn’t driving stoned where they might run into me I’m Ok with marijuana being legalized .
I would even go as far as allowing a larger possession if the person grows their own.
A federal law would be better though .Making it standard across the country .

This is my reasoning . They call marijuana a “starter or entry” drug & that is true for many. However when it becomes legal a person no longer has to seek out an illegal dealer . That way it separates the contact with a drug dealer who probably at least know where harder drugs can be found if that dealer is not selling harder drugs themselves.

For that reason (and maybe a few more), the highest German court gave hints on requirements for electronic voting to prevent any cheating here, that it’s probably impossible to ever invent these if the law doesn’t change.

However I read that there is a Youtube video (haven’t seen it myself) that shows someone clicking (or touching) the Obama field and the mark is set for Romney.

Also, this not-quite-as-old one is quite funny:

: PLEASE PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION TO THIS: In the event you are planning to vote on Nov.6, when you go into the voting booths, DO NOT SELECT the button " ALL " DEMOCRATS " first because Barack Obama, will be excluded from the Democrats Vote. However if you choose “Barack Obama” First, and then; “All Democrats” They will earn your votes. People are Not being informed of this very important imformation!

I wonder if the same was true for Romney & that was a problem for him getting a lot fewer votes. Might be worth investigating.
