NOTHING will burn a DVD. HELP!

vbimport

#1

i have tried to use Nero, Roxio, CDBURNERXP PRO (as recommended by someone on here), and Cucusoft Convertor. nothing will burn a DVD on my drive.

i can still burn cd’s and VCD’s with no problem, but when it comes to DVD’s, data or video, it always fails under a write error. i don’t know what to do- i HOPE its not my drive, and as it still burns cd’s it would seem not to be.

here’s my Nero log. hope someone can help me. if any advice involves anything highly tech-ish, please be specific and assume i don’t know what you’re talking about. the person who recommended i use CdBUrner XP noticed that there is a function error as well as a write error.

It’s quite possible for a DVD burner to fail on the DVD side & working fine for CDs as they’re essentially 2 different parts of the burner.

You should try burning slower to start with. Drop to 12x & then 8x and see if that makes a difference.

Also the CD device connected to the same cable as the DVD burner is not running in DMA mode so might be affecting the DVD burner. Try initially just disconnecting the IDE cable from that device.
For fixing DMA read this thread .

Also the version of Nero you’re running is the very first release of V7 & was so buggy it’s untrue. You need to upgrade this asap.

#3

just found out my drive wont even READ dvd’s at all.

and, i’ve already tried to burn at different speeds on the other programs. zilch.

#4

I found that this cured a whole lot of problems once I installed the hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883523/en-us There is a fault in XP SP2.

#5

If that hotfix doesn’t work then you’re running out of options.

You could try a lens cleaner or different media but it’s looking like the burner is failing/failed & needs replacing.
