Thank you very much for your quick answer.
Honestly, I have never been interested by hardware issues; there always was at least one guy working in the same company who was much more into it than me, and I used to love to sit back and admire that guy fixing my machine...
Anyway, it seems I paid it this time, at least by not knowing it would have been a good idea to at least ask what kind of cooler they would put in my new machine. I checked my bill, and the line "cooler" was empty, leaving them free to put whatever old thing they had left in the back of the shop...
BTW, yes, it seems to be entirely made of aluminium, just like the one on the picture at: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/alan-fm/5185-0384.html
(well, if there is some other metal inside the heatsink, I don't know how to see it from the outside)
I am wondering if it would be worth it to show up at the shop and let them know what I think of them (specially, would they have told me, I would have been OK to pay 15 bucks more for a decent heatsink...)
Whatever... thanks to you I know how to fix this!
I checked the specs of the WhisperRock (I guess you meant WhisperRock IV, the last one), and it looks just great for what I need, thanks.
I will check with that, and then add a case fan if needed, as you suggest. I checked keeping my case open, and my CPU gets a 51 C instead of 53 while idling; I don't know if a case fan would do much better.
I did a bunch of web browsing about the thermal paste as well, and, my god, I wish I can be back soon to software-only stories.
Well, I have the feeling I might come around again and ask a stupid newbie's question... Thanks for bearing with me
