Any way to up the speed to 4x? Firmware? So far I’ve only got 2x burns for NEC 1.16/18, Quikee’s V2MRS/E 2.18/28 and Liggy Ritek SE. Thx for any hints!

Post the MID.
Check my “Identify your discs” link in my sig.

if dvd identifier dosn’t recognize the discs it must be some really obscure junk media. you should be happy if you can get it to burn reliably and get it to play back on a standalone. if your nec 3500 only wants to burn it at 2x don’t argue with it. don’t buy garbage media and you will not experience this problem…

#5

I do know that “really obscure junk media” is pure flattery in this case!
Having said that, the wrapping (sellofan?) had 4x printed on them. :a
In any case, the 2x burns are ok so far, guess I’ll grind it out for what’s left over of the 25/cakebox. Thx!

As an aside, Best Buy frequently has Fuji 8x+ MIJ on sale for .40 each. Thesse are TY discs and they will give you top notch burns all the way to 16x. Thesse are the best bang for you buck that I have found yet. Personally have a reseve of over 400 of these discs myself…

#7

It should be possible to burn these @ 8x or even higher maybe using the Pioneer 4x DVD-R strategy (PVCR001002)

#8

For what it’s worth, these:

ID as:

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]

Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]

@Herrie
Is there a fw for the NEC 3500 with this “Pioneer 4x DVD-R strategy (PVCR001002)”?
(I’m good if I can find a writeable media under 2.50 usd, the music industry here managed to get a law passed on cd/dvd media, the minimum import/custom fee for a dvd is 0.80 usd. And that’s added on the retail+shipping price. 0.40 usd for a good dvd is only a distant dream!)

#10

If herrie says it’s possible then it must be. I’m not sure, but mabey if you try quikee’s or liggy/dee’s latest firmware it might just do the trick (just notice that you are using somewhat dated versions). You can find them here: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/index.html

I couldn’t imagine paying $2.50+ a disk…where do you live?

#11

Looked at the user reviews on disks and the results seem spotty. I have never had a coaster with ty. Also, TYG02 are 8x disks not 4x, and these are being sold as 4x. On the compatability list, it only shows them as being suported at 4x with 2.17. I may be wrong but I think they should burn 12x with that firmware. All this suggests fake TY…

#12

@MysticEyes - I hate to say it you just linked everyone to Fake TY media as spryfly suggests. Unless it’s branded as Fuji / Verbatim / TDK / Taiyo Yuden and Made In Japan it’s probably not TY media.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

#13

Already tested LD V2 Beta 6 and Quikee 2.18 QV3ME RC. Perhaps I’m missing somehting?

Lol, it’s not that simple, totally diffrent rates and that’s reflected in much higher wages.

#14

Wrong link:

http://www.shop4tech.com/item2526.html

Here is the link to the TY’s:

http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=2534&cata=&s_cata=

I’ve got one, that’s were the ID came from. I will email Shop4tech and ask them about the ID as Matrix appears to be their house brand (they carry much cheaper media that I haven’t tried). I’ve been dealing with them for quite awhile and have been most pleased with their service and free shipping. Seems odd that they would even bother selling counterfeit goods (although nowhere do they call them TY’s). But your suspicions have some merit.

#15

Will try to make 2 patches today, 1 using PVCR001002 (max. 8x burning) and 1 using AN31 (max. 4x burning) strategy. Maybe I’ll find some more compatible MID’s

#16

Thank you! I’ll drop in tomorrow and have a look

#17

was basing my conclusion on the media code that you posted…

#18

any updates on this? I accidentally bought some of these no-mid dvd-r.

#19

lol…how does one accidentilly buy media?

#20

well, accidentally may not be the correct term but I was buying these generic media by the 50-pack. I have had good results when they were selling media with DKMZ01 mids but the last time i bought a pack they sold me some of these no-mid dvd-r

They won’t accept returns so I might as well find a way to use them.

Maybe you would like me to use “ignorantly bought” or “stupidly bought”?
