No Drive Letter

Hey everyone. I just recently got an external hardrive. I formated the drive using Vista and now when I try to use the external hardrive on XP it recoginizes the drive but when I go to my computer to open the drive it isnt there. When I go to Manage drives it shows the drive but doesnt give it a drive letter. I have reformated the drive in Vista and even deleted the volume. When I then try to format the drive in XP it will not allow me to do anything to the drive. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can fix the drive so it will allow me to use it on XP and vista. The drive only shows up in my computer when it is used with an OS with vista on it.

Thanks

Then give it a drive letter!

You have to.

i have given it a letter drive. it shows up as a letter drive in vista, however when i use it on xp it doesnt give it a drive letter and will not allow me to change anything on it.

Dunno what he meant with “letter drive”, but if it was “drive letter” than my answer should be ok.
