Newbie says hello and SOS for DVD Fab problems

I’ve downloaded a version of DVD FAB and since then have had problems with the dreaded pcouffin 32 device and dealt with support trying to resolve this issue without success. I reinstalled the old software I had been using to burn DVD’s but when I went to burn a DVD the drive doesn’t recognize the media anymore. :a I’ve been toying with the idea of formatting the drive and reinstalling everything but I really don’t want to do that if some one can give me a simple solution or at least a reasonable solution.

Hi
Welcome onboard frankenfurter2007. :iagree:
You can try just disabling pcouffin via Device manager.
Even uninstalling.
Disabling works for me.

Try unistalling this drive, unistalling driver will often correct these types of problems. Welcome to the forum too!

Thanks for the replies. I’ve tried that and it doesn’t seem to work for Nero. The reason I tried DVD Fab was for the decrypter. The decrypter is great for for ripping those “difficult” movies and thought I could have both software. Still in a lurch. Thanks anyway.

Moved to the DVD Fab section here.

before uninstalling can you post a burn log from dvdfab_burn_vso?

troy

Hi Troy,
I’ve done the clean uninstall long time ago and still haven’t had any success. Although, after reading your entry I reinstalled the latest DVDFab and tried to burn a DVD stored on my hard drive and it started to write but failed with an error 116 and ejected the disk. ( I was shocked that it actually tried to write. It usually doesn’t find any media to burn).
Here is a copy of the burn vso crash log:

Incidently, I check the pcouffin device for 32 bits systems and it has an exclamation point next to the device.

Should I try to do another clean uninstall again? I’ll wait for your reply and thanks for replying in the first place.

Hi frankenfurter2007,

Personally, I’d uninstall the patin-couffin driver from your device manager.
As zebadee mentioned, just disabling it is usually sufficient, but I suspect you have multiple or corrupted, etc., installs.

Next just reinstall Fab from a new download…the patin-couffin driver will install with the app.
Hopefully, this will work.

Good luck and let us know…

yes do as maineman and zebadee suggest. in fact i about tore my system apart because i had problems with the pcouffin driver. i just could not figure it out. well i had two installs. :doh:should have checked the device manager:doh:

lets read up here

12/17/2007 8:54:59 PM info Using SPTI interface

looks like there is a problem with the pcouffin driver. it should show Using Patin-Couffin driver Version 1.37, Internal revision 37 - Async. Access mode

your drives firmware is a little behind the newest available is GSBC, get it here
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1735
or here
http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#LDW-451S

12/17/2007 8:59:27 PM info Ultra DMA mode 2 (ATA33)

your in dma mode thats good.

12/17/2007 8:59:27 PM info Media ID: CMC MAG. AM3
12/17/2007 8:59:27 PM info Media type: DVD-R

this media has a variance is quality. some report good quality burns while others say its crap. you need to read up on these sites here
http://club.cdfreaks.com/f33/media-faq-61943/
and

12/17/2007 8:59:27 PM info Writing speed requested x2.0, effective x2.0
12/17/2007 8:59:27 PM info Available write speed: 2x

your drive is not reporting the correct burns speeds you should be getting 16x, 12x, 8x, 4x. i would suggest using 8x.

i checked the latest GSBC firmware and here is the media code speed edit report for dvd-r. match a good/high quality disc to what this firmware supports.

troy

i’m having the same issues.
i’ve tried to uninstall following the provided guide (which is really well explained) then reinstall but still the same issues.
i’ve tried to disable the pcouffin in the device manager and it still fails telling me to insert a compatible device.
i’ve tried to unistall it in the device manager and same problem.
i don’t understand i use the same dvd’s i’ve always used and i never had a single problem with dvdfab platinium 3.x

any more ideas?
