Newbie question about Pioneer DVR-215D

[qanda]This thread is about the Pioneer DVR-215D. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi everyone,

THis is my first thread in this forum, and english is not my first language.

I have a pioneer 215D with the latest (original 1.18) firmware installed.

After many hour to try to understand what I have to do to unlock it like my old DVR-108. The diffrence now, I don’t have a software with one click to hack the firmware.

Correct me if I’m wrong.

The thing I understand, is I have to run Media Code Speed, load original firmware 1.18, check increase read speed (if I want), RPC1 patch and anable bitsetting.

Here’s my confusion. Increase read speed, it’s clear, but RPC1 patch and bitsetting… What is the change with that box checked?

Crossflash from 215D to 215 unlock it? Or only add more options?

thanks for your repply!

RPC1 will remove region code

enable bitsetting will booktype +r media to dvd-rom

non-D models support dvd-ram

bitsetting will booktype +r media? What do you mean by that?

Bitset/Booktype Dvd+R media to Dvd-Rom, which is the same as a commercial Dvd. The drive as it is right now with stock firmware will not do this, but if you check that box it will do it automatically.

Some older standalone dvd-players are not able to play +R media.
If the booktype is set to dvd-rom (automatically in this case), the burned dvd will be compatible with older standalone dvd-players as well, that’s what it’s all about.
