I've been using the ZSOJ firmware with my 40125s for a while and it seems great.
ANyone tried the new ZSOK firmware? Any comments about how it works, etc?
Thanks

Well with ZS0K my Stupid and Unfriendly CDRW’s (Smart and Friendly) are now detected…When I first got the drive (a few weeks ago) I updated to ZS0J and couldn’t get these CDRW’s to read, (never tested with the original firmware) but they worked in my DVDROM and my old Sony CRX145.

So today I decided to take the plunge (b/c I think I saw on the forums stating the the burn speed lowered a bit on most media with ZS0K, but it’s hardly noticeable) and plus now I can read these CDRW’s

ZS0K is still greater, I guess

As it appears here the writing speeds are identical :

Product LTR-40125S
Firmware Version ZS0J
Average 31.36x
Start 18.80x
End 40.01x
Reading type P-CAV

Firmware Version ZS0K
Average 31.36x
Start 18.80x
End 40.01x
Reading type P-CAV

Yet the reading speeds seemed slightly better with ZS0K :

AUDIO :

Firmware Version ZS0J
Type Audio
Length 81:16.32
Transfer rate
Average 37.27x
Start 21.41x
End 49.38x
Reading type CAV

Firmware Version ZS0K
Type Audio
Length 82:00.73
Transfer rate
Average 37.71x
Start 19.79x
End 50.11x
Reading type CAV

Type Audio
Length 82:01.48
Transfer rate
Average 37.72x
Start 21.47x
End 50.08x
Reading type CAV

DATA ( looks similar to me ):

Firmware Version ZS0J
Type Data
Length 74:19.67
Average 36.78x
Start 21.33x
End 48.53x
Reading type CAV

Firmware Version ZS0K
Type Data
Length 76:18.74
Average 36.89x
Start 21.16x
End 48.66x
Reading type CAV

So, it’s kinda hard to tell, 'cos the tested CDRs weren’t the same. As for media matching, my habits don’t vary much either -
TY, Kodak, Verbatim, Traxdata ( Ritek ), which all work just fine with me.
Although one thing is certain here - if you feel like it, just go for it. It’s not for the worse anyway
