I just purchased a 500G HD (HD 500G|WD 7K 16M ATA100 WD5000AAKB) and put in an external case USB2.0 and started to format. Windows disk management tells me its size is 2048G. Anyone know whats wrong? The external case is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817186101:eek:

good post nicely answered yea i would have guessed somthing close just as an fyi some hdd’s though not sata often come with a jumper setting that limits the disk to 32GB
