As a side note, I seem to remember Dave (dhc014) saying at one point that MtkWinFlash doesn’t work well with the LiteOn DVD burners. LtnFW is definitely the recommended way to go.

MTK Win Flash does not work at all with DVD Burners. The only reason to use any flash tool other than LtnFW is if you somehow misflash the drive and the drive is not detected in Windows any more. In that case, mtkflash 1.69 or higher is required to bring a Liteon DVD Burner back to life from real DOS.

Ok,used Liteonflash and new j bin. First DVD+R (Maxell) was a coaster. Went back to g bin and its ok as far as +R is concerned.

Just so everyone knows this is why we chose not to put it in the tools sticky at all. For the most part LtnFW is indeed king. It does the same thing as mtkwinflash but works on all LiteOn drives.
It’s amazing to see people still track down mtkwinflash from time to time :stuck_out_tongue:

Just wanted to throw out a quick thanks to code65536 for the FW. I’m about to give it a go.

Here’s 1 of my results so far with ‘J’…

  • 812S Drive, US0J (hacked with Always-on Bitsetting/Booktyping and the Speedhack)
  • Media used are Memorex inkjet printable 4x DVD+R(RICOHJPNR01) burned at 8x as DVD-ROM
  • Nero 6.3.0.2

After the burn, DVDinfoPro sees it as DVD-ROM and I was able to play the burned DVD on my old Toshiba DVD set top player (damned thing wouldn’t read any of my other burns (burned as regular +R) with this media so I’m HAPPY!)

Here’s the KProbe results…

Thats funny cause Ive never had better results than with US0J!!

Check this scan out using US0J - SpeedHack Enabled/Auto-BitSetter Enabled (Set to DVD-ROM) Burned @ 4X using RICOHJPNR01… Not Bad!! Finally Good results…

namuna’s burn was done at 8x. It seems like some of the newer LiteOn firmwares haven’t been as good at overspeeding.

Ill try an 8x burn tommorow and post the results… Even if they are bad, Ill stick with the 4x burns…

I just finished setting up my NetGear Super-G Wireless Network for my PC and Notebook… Im exhausted and thrilled! :o

Also, I’m using the inkjet-printable white-topped DVDs. Don’t know if there’s much difference between them and the silver topped variety, but I figure it’s worth noting.

Excuse my ignorance, but when I download and unzip the file, I get a file “USOJ.BIN”

How do I translate this file into an executable so I can install the USOJ firmware under XP?

TIA,

Zeno

Look in the LiteOn tools sticky at the top of the forum, and take a look at LtnFW…

Im getting great results with US0J.

Memorex 4x DVD+R(RicohJPNR01) burned at 8x, set to DVD-ROM.

Heres another one with a different Kprobe version. The settings were the same in the other one.

Arita 2.4x DVD+R(RicohJPNR01) burned at 8x, set to DVD-ROM.

here is my 8x burn with RICOHJPNR01-02… This is with booksetting as DVD-ROM also… (Without hacking the booksetting in)

This is the best burn I have ever gotten!!

Here it is…

Pretty colors :stuck_out_tongue:

This is with Philips brand +R 2.4x CMC disk burnt at 8x

The burn:

The read:

Surface scan:

Kprobe scan:

I don’t think this is bad considering it’s pushing that 2.4x rated disk to 8x.

Now if Liteon would just can the 4x part…

@pchilson

Nice burn! I guess the newer 812S firmwares aren’t as bad as the newer 851S firmwares, then…

I’m really quite impressed with this drive. Its holding its own with my BenQ and NEC. Of course the BenQ is the fastest. Now the question is which to make my starter and which to ride the bench.

Im definately happy they released some quality firmware… Im also happy with the drive, primarily because of people like c0deking and code65536 who helped out with some good patches…
