New SOHW-812S firmware US0F

I’ve posted US0F on my site: http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#SOHW-812S

It was sent to me by someone who got it from Liteon (thanks). No word on what is changed. I’m not sure if this version supports bitsetting or not, I’d hope so.

Post your findings if you decide to try this firmware out!

I’ll try this (fw US0F instead of US0A) and I notice that writting quality on MEMOREX DVD+R (CMC MAG) is about 50% worse than with fw.US0A but still very good result. (PO cca 200 instead of 100 with US0A PI something about 200000  )

kProbe result maybe tomorow.

any word on bitsetting?

Doesn’t work.

from today is fw. US0F for LiteOn 812S officialy released on LiteOn site :

US0F.zip

bitsetting still missing only match more media ;(

Just comparing US0F unofficial and official. It seems like official has more 8× speed media in table than unofficial released on rpc1.

But now, it’s not important because speedhacking utility was made by code65536. Thanks for it !

You wish

Pardon my ignorance, but how does one download this firmware from Lite-On? Does it require Internet Exploder? I’ve tried Mozilla, Galeon, and Opera, and when I click the link for the firmware I want, it just reloads the page.

Deep link: US0F download @ LiteOnIT

I still don’t know how I am “supposed” to download it.

I´m on Mozilla Firefox right now…

No problem

Disable any firewall and try again.
(My firewall don´t stop me…/Sygate PF/

Edit: alternative
link
hmm, got wrong link

Works for me on IE. But not on Firefox.

Are you on Windows or Linux…? I´m on SuSE right now…

Never mind. He got an alternative link.

I know my firewall is not the issue. (I’m not using a “personal” firewall in any case.)

Oh well… the deep link is good enough.

Here are the media code changes from US0A -> US0F:

Added 1 +RW code: “ISSM”, “001”, 0x00, 0b11110 (8x 6x 4x 2x)

Added 1 -RW code: “JVC0VictorD7”, 0x00, 0b00110 (4x 2x)

There are no other changes to the media codes. (Thanks code65536 for getcodes.pl)

What’s up with the 8X +RW codes? I guess the media can handle 8X, but not the drive?

There are no 8x +RW codes, AFAIK. In more recent FW revisions, there’s are generally a few blank or trash codes between the +R codes and +RW codes. But this is not true for some of the older FWs. Because there isn’t always a break of blank or trash codes between +R and +RW and because there sometimes are blank codes in places other than right in between +R and +RW codes, there’s no easy way to have my tool know whether it’s reading the +R table or the +RW table. That’s why all the +R and +RW codes are listed as +R/W (shorthand for +R/+RW). So if you see an 8x +R/W code, that’s probably a +R code and not a +RW code (I looked at the US0F codes, and none of the +RW codes were at 8x)

Thanks, I should have noticed that on my own

I’m particularly interested to see your evaluation of the 812 vs. the NEC 2500A. If I’ve interpreted your 811 and 2500A results correctly, it looks like you would pick the NEC over the 811.

LMAO, I’ve never heard of ‘Internet Exploder’.
I hope it’s not dangerous

I would

I just got this burner last night and loaded up on 8x media (both + and -).

My drive has not been able to do an error free disk with either format (+/-) at 8x. Hopefully this new firmware will fix that… :frowning:
