Just trying out a new notebook-style slim DVD drive, the DS-8ABSH. Right of the bat it seems "different" from previous Lite-On models.
The construction is much cheaper; many panels that used to be aluminum are now metallized plastic. All the usual LiteOn and third-party utilities that I've tried recognize it is a Lite-On and can set/use its abilities, with these differences:
- The firmware utility displays the drive rev but the options to dump or flash are greyed out. I used LtnFlash to attempt to dump the firmware; the file looks to be encrypted as I can't make any sense of it.
- Bitsetting is possible - at least the options aren't greyed out as they have been with every other Lite-On slim drive to date.
