A new ransomware variant offers its victims a free decryption key if they infect two or more other internet users with the malware that pay the ransom. The malware is called Popcorn Time and like all other ransomware it encrypts files and demands a ransom.

An interesting idea. Should be a great success.

People love a special offer. I’m sure many victims will happily infect others to get their free decryption key. But the terms and conditions will ensure that few, if any, will qualify - the timescale for the two new sub-victims to pay up is rather short, not that the original victims will have bothered to read that.
