So far the Optiarc 7240S has proven to be a very nice burner at all speeds, but who is realistically going to burn at 22-24x speed? The 117 is to new of a drive to compare it to the 116 or 115, but some are eager to get their hands on it to experiment.
Probably the majority of the folks who buy it. A Pioneer tech stated that their research has shown that most burn at ‘MAX’. You can’t judge what the ‘masses’ do by those who post here.
As a side note for DL discs Verbs are always the recommended choice, but looking at Buy.Com Memorex DL discs are rated 4 out of 5 stars by the ‘masses’.

I use these dual layer dvds to burn xbox 360 games i get off the internet… . In my opinion, you don’t need to buy the Verbatim media everyone tells you should get, these work just fine for xbox 360 games, and I even write them at the highest speed (8x). So what are you waiting for, go ahead and buy these today!
5 of 5 Good dvd disc as Usual Wednesday, January 14, 2009

I’ve been buying this brand and type DVD+R disc ever since I bought my First DVD burner (SONY-DRU-820A) and that’s been quite a few years now. I don’t have hardly any problems with them or if I do it is Operator error,My fault. I really like these disc, especially the Memorex 8x DVD+R DL, which I’m writing this review about. They are just fine for me and my dvd burner, which is a Pioneer DVR-115D.

I’ve been using these Memorex DL disks for a month now and every single one has been perfect. I’m about half way through my second box of 50. The drive I burn them with is a Pioneer 115D with firmware v.1.13
But then again we all know that Pioneers will burn anything.
