I just installed a new NEC3550a (retail package) into a machine with an ASUS CUV4XE mobo, PIII at 1gHz, 384 MB RAM, XP Pro SP2 and Media Player 9. The drive was added to an existing LiteOn CD burner that is using the Nero OEM that came with it.
The drive was installed on the same IDE cable as the LiteOn CD burner. The NEC drive jumper is set to Master and it is installed at the end of the IDE cable. The LiteOn is jumpered to slave and installed at the middle position.
After the install, windows booted normally and found the new hardware. Device Manager showed the new drive. I loaded a commercial DVD that I have successfully played in a standalone unit. Windows Media player could not open or play the DVD. Media Player reported:
C00D116A: Cannot play DVD video
Error ID = 0xC00D116A, Condition ID = 0x00000000
I next tried an Oingo Boingo DVD that works normally on a standalone unit.
Video card acceleration is set to max and the card is configured for digital.
Next I installed the Nero OEM software:
Nero 6, NeroVision Express 3 SE and Nero Media Player and retried. Same problem.
Followed all the steps in the Microsoft DVD troubleshooter: no fix.
I upgraded Media Player 9 to version 10 and rebooted. Same problem.
Swapped IDE cable location for LiteOn CD and NEC DVD, rebooted, same problem.
Microsoft page says I need a DVD Decoder Plug-In. ????
Is this something else that needs to be purchased in addtion to the operating system, the drive and the burning software?
