Would anyone like me to send this firmware version to them? (I’d like to have it modified to remove RipLock and augmented with that IODATA 1.24 firmware to allow bitsetting of +R media. (And +RW as well?..possible?)

Yes, I’m a n00b.

For the record, I rec’d this drive from NewEgg 2 days ago.

Thanks

there are newer firmwares out there. go to: http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/

scroll down to the nd-3520 and you will see that yours is already available along with two newer ones.

whether these can be modded (esp for bitsetting) i would like to know myself…

Apart from the bitsetting code and firmware version information. I-O Data 1.24 and NEC 1.04 are almost indentical. So there isn’t really much point in trying to hack the NEC firmware to support bitsetting. Both firmwares have identtical write strategies for DVD -R +R.

I received a 3520 today (manufactured in December) and it has these firmware details. The CD-R strategy is newer than yours, although the rest are the same. I don’t know whether there are newer ones though.

[edit] I just checked it against the 6th version of 1.04 and that is newer than mine as the DVD-R strategy is more upto date than mine. Oh well I will flash mine to a better firmware later.
