Did you write to Jlms at all about this issue? You’re the only one I know complaining about it, and for a long time now. I doubt if the programmers are aware about it at all - someone has to nag them!

FYI, this version changes the drive ID string to “JLMS XJ-HD163D”.

Anyone know if this firmware release eliminated the ability to read DVD+R and DVD+RW. In Nero InfoTool those two are unchecked and I can’t remember if GHR6 had them checked.

As far as I’m aware, no drive of the 163 range can read dvd+r or dvd+rw. Not yet anyway.
Even the 165h drive can only read these formats since very recently, namely only as of f/w ch11.

If anyone has other info regarding this, I’d love to hear it

My 163D (GHR5) will read DVD+R and DVD+RW (I have a ND1100A and it reads discs written with that fine). I think it is DVD-RAM than the 163D doesn’t read but the 165H does.

Thanks, yes it’s sure true about dvd-ram.
In general there could be a difference between what the drive reports it can do and what it can really do. That’s why one should take Nero Info Tool’s report with a pinch of salt.

Real life tests are what count.
