The official changelog just contains, as almost always:

match more media

But this is not all. Tests have shown that “match more media” has a wider meaning than what it looks like. Handling of protected audio CDs has been improved!

can now read Key2Audio V3 protected discs

can now read Cactus DataShield 200 protected discs

can now read Doc.lok. V1/2 protected discs

The news is about 40125S :stuck_out_tongue:

So does this applies to 48246S too, but not only to 40125S?

Match more media means media compatibility right? What about quality?

The improved audio reading in the news only applies to 40125S of course. I can’t verify it on 48246S, and no one here did that so far either.

Match more media is LiteOn’s standard changelog. It can mean everything…reading crap media, improved write quality, or (obviously) read more non-standard discs

I bought a 48246S yesterday. I flashed the new firmware, SS08. The blank cd can now be read as 48X (40x - w/ old SS02 firmware).

Now, as we know you can even have it flashed to the LTR-52246S w 6S02.

If the media’s 40x certified, then it’s normal to be determined as 48x.
Taiyo Yuden 24x is being burnt @40x

Whoopsi… I guess I read too fast…
Does it make sense to downgrade a 48125w to a 40125s (at least
until there’s a new firmware for the 48125w)? Is that possible at all?

I just flashed from SS06 -> SS08. Nero only let me choose Write speed from 4x, 8x, 48x. What’s wrong!??? :a

Update: This is getting me nut. I tried Nero again, and now it gives all the other speeds again.

SS08 is a new FW core build 023B. Earlier revisions (including 6S02) are 021B. I would be looking for added features…
