I just bought a portable DVD system with dual displays, that supports DivX etc, NextBase SDV-97AM (http://www.nextbase-europe.com/en/products/1/39/SDV97_AM.html).
I have experimented and found that ripping with generic, avi (xvid + source) will work just fine.
However, I’m confused about what frame resolution I should choose. I want the files to be as small as possible, and as quick to generate as possible, while still look the best they can on the device.
The screen resolution of the 7" LCD screens is 480x234 pixels. Should I aim for correct X or correct Y?
I’m grateful for any input :)[/quote] Choose the 480x??? that matches the cropped aspect ratio of the original (which DVDFab will do for you in most cases). As 90312 and I have been poiinting out for some time, there is no benefit to encoding more pixels than your screen can display. The ideal profile for your device would be one like the Archos 504/604, but that did audiocopy instead of MP3. Your conversions should be very fast.
