New Asus 1608P3S ?'s

Hi Guys

Just got a new Asus after reading a good review here. I wanted a fast ripper and good error correcting on difficult pressed DL DVD’s.

I was really disappointed at how slow it ripped, slower than any of my other drives (Asus 1606, NEC 3550, Lite-On (?), and Samsung).

It also choked in Shrink at the same spot on a certain movie I own that has fine scratches that all my drives except my Lite-on does .

I immediately went to the Asus site and found I had the latest (1.24) firmware and decided to crossflash to Pio 111L. I have done so and notice no difference in spead or readability. I also tried tp flash back to the original 1.24 and can’t now.

What is the reason for crossflashing to Pio drive and why is it so sloooow?

thx

This would seem to be a good question to ask before doing it? Perhaps how it booktypes the media it burns?

You should probably also look at using MCSE to disable the Rip-Lock if you want it to read the discs faster. http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/

BTW, the drive has to run in UDMA4 mode connected onto a 80 conductor cable.
