At least, for once, try to get your facts straight. That’s NOT what the Netflix press release says. It says they will no longer ADD new titles in HD-DVD format.

“Netflix said that with such a clear signal from the industry, it will only buy Blu-ray discs going forward and will phase out stock of HD DVD by about the end of the year.” http://www.reuters.com/article/rbssConsumerGoodsAndRetailNews/idUSWEN388420080211 Will they be selling the used HD DVD discs?

It would seem to me that if they “phase out stock of HD DVD” discs, then they can’t rent them, and that would mean they’d only have Blu-Ray. How were the facts not straight?

Big eeeffing deal ! Movie studios prefer that there is noooo rental allowed. Every view buys a copy :B Netflix buys what? A 100copy per title? Big effing deal.

CDan, it’s clear from the press release that they will no longer buy HD DVD movies. If the current titles scratches or no longer able to rent, netflix will not get new ones. I rent more than buy especially those titles that I watched 2-3 years ago. Now if I can’t rent anymore HD titles, it’s clear that my HD player is no good anymore (I have a dvd player for that matter). Big news for me.

Well I guess I can cancel my subscription now. I joined because Blockbuster does not rent HD DVD. I guess by the industry dumping on HD DVD the consumer is being forced out of the fight between Blu-ray an HD DVD.

Looks like Sony is making up for the failure of Betamax.

Nice going Netflix! HD-DVD should be done by year’s end. Too bad they hung on so long and saddled so many consumers with discs and players that will soon be as obsolete as 8-Tracks.
