Netflix will make streaming of movies and series in Ultra HD / 4K available for Windows 10. However, users need a computer with the latest generation Intel CPU, a 4K display and are limited to the Edge browser to view the content.

Yet again, Dishonest Restrictions Management (DRM) that specifically targets paying customers . . .

Most people with a 4K display can play bootleg 4K rips of such content, so why does the movie industry need to be so dishonest to people that are willing to pay to watch 4K content?Â

The Scorpion and the Frog

A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the
scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The
frog asks, “How do I know you won’t sting me?” The scorpion
says, “Because if I do, I will die too.”

The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream,
the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of
paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown,
but has just enough time to gasp “Why?”

Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."

There are no good reasons to require these restrictions to view 4k video. I have an HTPC with an i5-3470 and an NVIDIA video card that will play 4k without a hiccup. I see arrangements like this and would like to be a fly on the ceiling when Netflix, MS and Intel met to screw the consumer just to stream 4k video. I also wonder how they can be so out of touch with consumers to think that this business model has any chance of success.
