Nero: unknown cdr error / invalid write state

vbimport

#1

Hi,
Would really appreciate any help that anyone can give me?
I have been burning Discs for a few years now with very few problems.
However i have a recent problem which i do not understand or know how to get round.
My cd writer is a Lite on LTR - 40125S.
I am using Nero Version 6.0.0.9.
My problem seems to be with burning Data.
If i want to burn some mp3`s from my hard drive onto a disc i get the errors shown in the log file.Ihave lost a few discs so i am now using simulation to try to investigate ans also ask for your help.

If i try to burn audio after attempting data i also get the same errors.
However if i re boot and then try to burn data there is not a problem.
Sorry to drone on but i am really confused and would appreciate any help.

Have added log below.
cheers

Some suggestions as a first advice:

  1. Turn on DMA for your drives. Instructions on how to do this can be found here courtesy of Womble.

  2. Use media other than CMC, preferably something like Taiyo Yuden or Mitsubishi Chemicals

  3. Upgrade Nero to the latest version from here

  4. Upgrade your drive’s firmware

Oh and welcome to the forums homer_uk

Edit:

  1. I have removed the Nero serial from your post, no reason why you should have it here online

  2. I see you are using win98 not XP, in which case DMA is turned on from the corresponding drives properties. Just go to system devices and right click - properties of your drive. There you will se a box mentioning DMA which you should tick to enable. Do this for all your drives and your hard disc(s)

Thanks for your help Hemispasm but…
Still no joy.
Have turned on DMA for my drives, have updated Nero to 6.30.23.

Still gives the same errors although the log is now showing

SCSI/ATAPI command timeout error
LITE-ON LTR-40125S\H0 T1

instead of Unknown CD error.

If you can be of any further help it would be appreciated.
many thanks

Have you tried using other media and updating your drives firmware?

Also, have you installed 3rd party ASPI software, like Adaptec’s ASPI? If so check if it is properly installed.

Edit:

It seems to be an ASPI related problem to me. I can find no info on this error from nero in english only in german:

Hi Hemispasm,

Thanks for all your help.

I think i have now got the problem solved.

I had checked my Disc drives for enabled DMA but not my Hard Drive.
Once i had ticked it and rebooted i have been burning without any problems.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, especially as you took time out to try to help me.

cheers
