NERO problem

i keep getting this error saying burn failure “writing short lead out”. At first i thought i had no room on the disc so i tried leaving about 1GB of space, didn’t work.
I then tried going to preferences and enabling it and i still get the error.

I am using LG Super Multi DVD Writer 16x16x10 DVD +/-RW Dual-Layer and
Ritek 4.7GB RiDATA 16X DVD-R, Inkjet White Hub Printable, 50 Pack

This is the error log:

Hi & welcome

 • uninstall nVidia IDE-drivers
 • disable multisession burning
 • use better media (Verbatim)

Turn on DMA/UDMA…

It’s shown as off because of the nVidia drivers. Nero can’t handle…

hi sorry how do i uninstall nvidia IDE-drivers and turn on DMA/UDMA?

nVidia: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=49767#dvdrw-dvdrwnvidiaide

DMA: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

IDE drivers in Device Manager should say Driver Provider: Microsoft.

ty so much ill c how it goes. But in the first link u gave me it says “Uncheck IDE drivers only” shouldnt it say to “check IDE drivers only”? cause i dont think i shoudl remove ethernet/display drivers  juz making sure.

I don’t have it installed here, but you’re correct to keep all nForce drivers, except IDE. The uninstall routine may start the actual setup again, in which case you do need to uncheck IDE and keep the others. If in doubt, just unistall everything and run setup again (and while you’re at it, get the latest release from the nVidia website).

okay all my “channels” say microsoft for driver provider. Should i update the drivers for all of them(3primary,3secondary), by clicking on the update driver tab? If i do it says i need a cd.

If it shows Microsoft there, it should be OK already. Have you tried to burn again after disabling multisession?

Maybe you should uninstall the nVidia drivers thru Add/Remove programs completely and reboot (download the latest first or keep your mainboard install CD handy to re-install them, unchecking the IDE in the process).

Can you attach screenshots of Device Manager showing all channels (press Alt + Prnt Scrn keys and paste in your image viewer, then save as .png file)?

k heres my list:

Looks alright, no nVidia there. Must be the multisession or the media. I also think it would be best to use 80-wire ribbon cable. Do you have the DVD-ROM and the DVD-RW on different channels/cables (recommended, assuming your hard disk is SATA)?

you know what to tell u the truth i have no idea because i let the people who i bought my computer parts from install everything for me. But i’m pretty sure they are separated i opened it up and no wires seem to be connected between the two drives.

Well, I’m working blindfold here  . Do you have two 80-wire ribbon cables (as in the picture) in there - one to each drive? Does your hard disk have a much smaller flat data cable attached to it?

I’m wondering why your Nero log shows “nvatabus” when you don’t have nvidia drivers installed. Did you uninstall them after taking this log?

DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1200JB-22FUA0 nvatabus Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8163B nvatabus Port 0 ID 2 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10N nvatabus Port 0 ID 3 DMA: Off

ya i uninstalled them after taking the log

OK, then check in Device Manager (under the appropriate IDE Channel’s properties) that your burner is in “Ultra DMA Mode 2” and disable Multisession in Nero. Should be good for another burn now (don’t go as low as 4X burn speed, use 8X or 12X with these 16 Speed discs).

i can’t find where it says “ultra DMA mode 2” but i’ve had 3 successful burns at 16x!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH CRESSIDA!!!

 Way to go t3chnon3!

PS - I’d still go with 12X burn speed  .

PPS - Gotta double-click on the IDE Channel with your burner on it and it should look something like this (sorry, I’m using Vista - XP looks slightly different).

can on 1 it says ultra DMA5
on 2 it says Ultra DMA2

AOK,
1 is your hard disk drive
2 is your optical disk drive
what’s on 3?
