Nero help please!

Can anyone offer a novice some help in burning with Nero?

I’m having trouble burning movies etc to disc using Nero 6.

It’s mostly .avi files I’ve tried. The burn process seems to go ok but when I play them back they either freeze, or jump around, or have the picture distorted into tiny blocks.

I’ve tried the Nero site for the latest uploads, tried different disc brands, tried burning to DVD and to SVCD too. Doesn’t seem to help.

Any ideas?

Cheers!, Gerry

Hi and welcome to the forum

Most of times (not always) this problem is due to a bad burning. What media did you used exactly? Can you say us mediacode? And what burner/firmware do you have? What speed you burned these discs?

You can find info on burner/firmware/media using cd-dvd speed

It’s nice to be here thanks. Tried a few different discs. Had to chuck all of them away.

Seems to work fine burning music, mp3’s etc. Just having bother with the movies.

The burner is a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW-1653S. I’ve never changed the speed as the program was pre-installed. I’m assuming Nero selects an ‘automatic’ or 'default ’ setting/speed?

No. In nero you must select burning speed.

Can you say exactly what media did you used? Use cd-dvd speed to see mediacode, like in the example I posted

Thanks again. Here’s what your link produced…

Should I be choosing the write speed then?

Cheers!, Gerry.

Sorry for bumping in…

Should I be choosing the write speed then?

The first thing you should do is to choose some better media, like Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD+R’s.

Visit our Lite-On/Sony forum section to find out how to convert your Sony to Lite-On. This page will give you all tools needed.

Happy burning.

Well this explain your problem: optodisc are not the best choice.

I suggest you to buy better media. Among the best available there are verbatim and taiyo yuden. Verbatim are easier to find in stores, taiyo are easier to find online.

You can choose burning speed, and I suggest to burn these discs @8x or @4x.

With your liteon drive you can do a scan of one of these media. If you have time, can you post a scan of a problematic media? Select the “disc quality” tab in cd-dvd speed, select 4x as speed, and then press start.

After about 15 min, when scan end, save the image pressing on the little floppy button on high right corner and save as png.

Sorry to sound dumb Pinto2, but what am I looking for, what 's my next steps after your link?

Here you go Geno888. Means little to me.

I’ll buy some proper media tomorrow then give that a try. Hopefully that’ll sort it

Cheers!, Gerry

Link proveded by pinto2 contain many modified firmwares and tools to play with firmwares and improve manually your burner. Not for beginners, but you can read something here in the forum to learn more.

Edit: You preceeded me.

This scan say that your disc is a coaster, and explain why playback is so bad.

A better media burned at the proper speed should solve your problem.
