Nero fails Burn Process immediately after start

I am attempting to burn Memorex DVD+R DL discs at 2.4x As soon as Nero starts the burn process… it fails. It says it failed to start Disc-at-once. Here’s the log which should tell you everything you need to know. This situation is not like the usual where it fails after burning. I really need some help here to know what’s going on and what I can do to fix it.

One of the most annoying problems caused by low quality media is that often the burner is not able to start the writing at all.

Memorex DL discs are among the worst DL discs available in the market. Try with Verbatim, this should solve.

Time for a new drive, your LG GSA 4163B is too old. Even if it was working right (which from your other posts it is not) it would not have any write strategies in firmware for new media like the RITEK S04 discs you are attempting to use.

Well… unfortunately for me, it’s the only thing available in the area. It’s the only brand Walmart carries.

I feel like crying… because I can’t even get Verbatim DVD +R’s here… nevermind DL

But I guess I’ll have to try and buy some off the internet and pay shipping… and maybe get a new drive soon. Like a BenQ or Liteon. Any recommendations? I need something with lots of flexiblity in reading and writing different types.

Like a BenQ or Liteon.

BenQ is no more.

For all its worth, I was tearing my hair out trying to find the reason why my burners (Sony DRU90’s) would not burn any Memorex DVD-R discs from a pack of 25 given to me by a friend who I was carrying out some lengthy (14 hrs) of video editing for, these responding exactly as you have experienced, however no problem whatsoever was experienced when other brands were tried, myself personally preferring to use Philips discs albeit I also use Sony - Verbatim - Maxell as well dependant on circumstances.

You should ID those brands.

http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

Philips, Maxell, Memorex, TDK, Imation etc. could very well be all the same discs, CMC or Ritek. None of them make their own.

Thanks for the link MysticEyes, very revealing to the extent that I am somewhat outraged by one of my findings regarding some Verbatim DVD-R discs I have, that being the programme revealed them as being Mitsubishi MMC 03RG20’s, which is exactly the same as the Signalex brand types I generally use “for test purposes”, as they originate from a UK “pound shop” chain. (being 4 for £1.00)

Of course this might explain why I have never at any time had a burn fail or any other problems whilst using these discount brand discs.

Some of my other types on test read /

Maxell - Ritek F1

Philips - INFOMEDIA R30

Sony - Sony 16D1

Memorex - CMC Mag AM3

Signalex - MMC 03RG20

Signalex (mini-disc) MMC 02RG20

I will say that I dont really have any trouble when burning DVD discs, as I always burn at approx half the speed indicated on the disc and never allow Nero burning ROM to choose the max speed available.

I never burn at half speed. I actually burn my 8X TYG02 -Rs at 12X in my Pioneer. With modern burners and media slow is not always better.

QUOTE:
Unfortunately although I also have a pair of Pioneer burners (115’s) I cant use them on Nero, as it is a bundled version that came with the Sony DRU190’s and that version will not activate any burner that isn’t a Sony so I would have to use some other software programme to use the Pioneers.

The Taiyo Yuden G02 discs referred to aren’t (to me anyway) the easiest to obtain although I have read some good reports on them, but as aforementioned I cant say that I have ever experienced any great problems when burning DVD’s, that is as far as actual burning failures or a disc failing a short time after being burnt is concerned, and as I have been doing this for about five years now so basically adopt the attitude of “if it works satisfactorily, dont alter anything”.

hi!!!
i am new here and i am facing a similiar problem.i am using sony dvd-r. and nero 6.6.i want to burn some 4.3gb of movies as data disc.when simulated it completes successfully.when burned to a sony dvdrz it is burning successfully.but each time i am burning it to a dvd-r .it starts and completes without burning it and wasting the whole dvd.i have a lenovo r60 laptop. i had bought a set of 6 dvds.other data were burned successfully but this is causing a real pain.reinstalling is not helping either.please help.

i am attaching the error list.

Here is what I usually order. of course, it depends on your location but I think it’s a pretty good deal and have very good success rate on burns.
