Nero CD-DVD Speed "erase" vs "format"

What is the difference between erase and format? (I understand the options quick and full)

Thanks

erase is the equivalent of just deleting all of the data

format is well formatting

haha this is harder to explain than it sounds. maybe someone will have a more technical explanation.

,two examples of formats would be ISO and the new UDF

Actually in Nero it’s quick erase just erases the data that tells the drive it’s full. The data is still there, it just gets overwritten. Windows Format is essentially the same, that’s why folks use software that ‘Wipes’ the drive (it writes a series of data over and over) when dumping old usable computers.
