Nero burning SUPER slow!

I have a Compaq Presario with the original DVD burner it came with (HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4083B). For a long time I had no problems burning with any software however this weekend things went bad! Its taking an hour to burn a DVD anbd about the same to verify it (video, data, anything). Also tried Burn4Free - same thing. I uninstalled Nero and reinstalled, same result. The only things that happened prior to this were:

  1. I started a new tub of Sony DVD-R’s
  2. I installed Slysofts CloneDVD and AnyDVD
  3. After the problems, in uninstalled the above 2 apps.

Its also taking around an hour to copy the data from a DVD (either these new batch or any older ones I wrote in the past) to the HDD.

Is this likely to be a driver problem or could the drive be dying on me?

Really hope someone can help me - I’m desperate to burn some important discs :frowning:

Thanks in advance.

Two very obvious problems.

  1. DMA is now not enabled on burner and/or HD.
  2. HD severely fragmented.

There’s a sticky on the Optical Drives forum about checking/setting DMA.
