Nero 7.8.5.0 could not perform start of disc at once

OK, I’d like to start by apologizing for this being my first post ever. I actually though I was already a member because I’ve used this forum to solve problems a ton of times. I guess this is the first time I’ve needed to post.

When I try to burn a Dual Layer DVD movie (actual dvd video files) I get the "could not perform start of disc-at-once error. I can burn 4.7Gb DVD movies fine as well as data DVDs and CDs I’m using a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D with current firmware. As my title says, Nero 7.8.5.0. I’m using Memorex DVD+RW DL which i have used before. Is there a difference between the ones you get in a spindle and the ones you get buying a 3 pack in jewel cases?

Any hlp would rule. Even if it’s just directing me to a prior thread. You people are the best!

Welcome apop32, most people here try to steer clear of Memoxex D/L media, and buy the Verbatim Made in Singapore D/L media, that said, I am not sure that this is your problem as you are using an old version of Nero. I cannot reproduce this error using Nero 8. Hope this helps a little. Happy Easter.

#3

Thanks for the quick reply. I updated to Nero 8 and I did have the same problem. Also I just didn’t like the interface, so i went back to tried and true 7. Like I said, this is a new problem, as I did burn at least 4 DL dvds a few weeks ago for my nephew and I’m 99.9% sure they were the same DVDs. I’m looking at the jewel case they came in next to the spindle i have. I’ll look into verbatim, but these dvds were on sale  that’s always a big factor.

#4

You could try using Recode with this setting

#5

Nope. It compiled succesfully, but then there was a power calibration error and the same disc-at-once error.

#6

Have you tried a different batch of media, just guessing now. Trying to help.

#7

The only thing that doesn’t want to work is the Dual Layer DVD. I’ve burned a single layer movie and data to both DVD and CD as well as audio to a CD (all different brands though…maybe this is the problem, but like I said, less than a month ago, I burned DVD files to these same discs.) I’m gonna try data to a dual layer now. Maybe i’ll just buy a new burner when my bush money comes.

Edit: Didn’t work with data either. Many thanks for all your help.

Such media does not exist and Memowrecks is cheap media…

Don’t even try to burn that DL at 8x again! TRY AT 4x!

You are right. I didn’t mean RW…just R. and I only bought it because it was cheap. Most of what i download is just avi files and i burn them as data since i have a divx capable dvd player, so i’m not that concerned with quality. But i was trying to make a few DVDs for my girlfriend. I guess I can always just convert them to avi. The only reason I’m so ticked is that they have worked before. Thanks for your time. Everyone here kicks ass.

#10

I would just use single layer DVD discs to burn .avi’s. I have a Divx compatible player also  No need to have coasters using DL’s. No need to change format either

They should play even if you burn them (.avi’s) to a CD-R.

#11

yeah, I burn throwaway stuff to CDs to watch while I’m doing dishes and then actually throw them away. The DL was just for some actual DVDs I was trying to burn. My burner doesn’t care what single layer I use. My book of TV shows is filled with whatever brand DVDs were on sale any given week.

Welcome to the forum tomo

Your burner doesn’t appear to like that particular media (RITEK S04). Everything else checks out - DMA, burn size etc.

For DL burning, Verbatim is the only safe bet.

#14

hello arachne!

i know that verbatim media are very reliable, but i haven’t had any problems with traxdata so far, single-layer though…

thanks for the advice, i hope it’s just the media. i’ll let you know

#15

Yeah, single layer Traxdata can be OK, I have some here, both - and +R :iagree:

But Ritek/Traxdata DL…quality aside, they’re made in a different way to Verbatim ones (“inverted stack” method - read more here), and not all burners can get on with that (as they’re optimised for the way Verbatim DLs are manufactured).

So yep, I’d say it’s just the media…or rather the way it’s made
