Nero 7.5 giving me constant error last 5 times

Hi guys,
Something really weird is happening. Lately, by Nero is giving me an annoying error which resulted in 5 consecutive bad DVD burns from the start.

I have burnt many DVDs with no coasters. I have not burned DVDs in a few months now, and now when I need to burn one it gave me some error which I could not find through google. The weird thing is, I uninstalled my NEC drive through control panel, reboot, and burnt a CD and a DVD successfully. Afterwards, I tried to burn another DVD (the next day) without shutting down my PC) and it did the same f*** error again. I uninstalled my NEC drive through control panel and reboot, burtn successfuly a CD and a DVD. Today, again, I am trying to burn a DVD and this error is still showing up again. I wasted 6 DVDs already – straight into the trash!! I used to have NO error. Could you guys help me out? Here is my log:

Assuming that DMA was correctly enabled - you’ve removed that part of the log - then a highly likely cause is media. So just what media are you using?

#3

Yeah, DMA is enabled…

I am using the exact same settings, media (same spindle), software (Nero) that I used 4 months ago. Yet, I get this problem. I am using a verbatim DVD+R.

Thinking of what can be the problem. I recently installed MS Visual Studio . NET 2005 and it installs so much crap!! I got rid of it yesterday but still get the error. Dont know if Microsoft installs who knows some registry things that can bug my burning.

Second, I “cleaned” my PC inside the tower from the excessive dust that was on the fans and other places. Simply blew away the dust.

#4

OK , not the discs then.

There’s FAQ on Nero’s website about this. Have a look here.

I guess it’s possible to blow dust into the burner so affecting the laser(s). Maybe a DVD lens cleaner would help or open up the burner & give it a clean.

#5

best thing to try is power off the computer with dvd tray open and reblow that dust

my nec 3550 was acting up, I finally had to disassemble and use a q tip

#6

Well, I dont think its dust inside it. Because what does that have to do with me uninstalling the burner from control panel and rebooting and burning a CD and DVD successfully. It has got to be something on the software side…

#7

All right guys, here is some more info for you… I cannot get rid if that “Power calibration error.”

I uninstalled my Nero 7.5 using the uninstalle tool from Nero’s website, deleted all registry related, 2 registry cleaners, and manually deleted any reference to Nero or ahead from the registry.

I installed it again after rebooting and such. Same error! I opened up my PC disconnected my burner to reset it, plugged everything back one – same error.

Put a CD+r in there and burnt successfully. Afterwards put a DVD+R and “Power calibration error.” Went to control panel, uninstalled my NEC, reboot PC. Took the same DVD+R that gave me error, put it back in and it burnt successfully!!

Took another one of my DVD+R “coasters” off the trash, put it in and it gave me the “Power calibration error.” Went to control panel, uninstalled my NEC device, reboot. Took that same coaster off the trash and put it in, burnt the DVD successfully!

Now tell me what the hell is going on? I bet you is some Microsoft stupid sh*t.

What could be the reason tho – obviously it is not the media, because the same DVD+R that is rejected is burnt perfectly after I uninstall my NEC and reboot the PC?

#8

That probably means you have registry conflict with your Nero do the following:

a) Restore you system windows registry to at least month back and reboot and try your operation now.

OR:

b) Upgrade to newest Nero 7.7.5.1 and try this again.

#9

Yeah, I do not keep Windows Recovery thing running. It only takes momory ans space. So there is no way for me to revert to older registry as i did not make any backups or anything.

I tried installing the demo of the newest Nero 7.8.5 – gave me same error. So it is clearly registry conflict.

I will just have to format C: and reinstall windows in the next few weeks when I get a little more time…
