It is indeed a shame when a company releases a piece of software that is good in so many ways and yet some basic things are left out even when the developer is aware of the shortcomings, I Am talking about Ahead's Nero Burning Rom, the problems are as follows:
(1) When Making A CD-Text, CD from mp3s Nero quite rightly Reads the Tags and automatically uses the data for the CD-Text, the problem is that Nero is Reading id3v1 tags, so if you have
an Artist like "Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sound Machine" you
will get "Gloria Estefan & The Miami Sou" as the entry in that
field. Nero Should be reading the id3v2 tags if they are available.
(2) Nero is the only Mastering software that allows you to record to an image file regardless of the type of disc you are making, Audio or otherwise it is sometimes desirable to create an audio cd straight to an image file and Nero does this beautifully, however, if you have an image file you do not just want to be able to write this at a later date to cd you would like to
mount the image in a virtual cd application like the ever wonderful free Daemon Tools, You can indeed mount a Nero image with Daemon but you must first install the Nero Image Drive Virtual cd manager that comes with Nero, this is bad because not only will you be having yet another cd emulator on your system that
does the same thing as Daemon half as good, but the Driver gets flagged by Windows xp this has been happening in Nero Since they included this in the package up to Version 6. Nero should just allow you to install a component that will enable
Daemon Tools to Mount the .Nrg Image file.
(3) The Excellent Nero Cover Designer Cannot get the CD-Text information from a CD-Text CD you want to label, this is a real shame the data is sitting right there on the CD your Drive has Full CD-Text Capabilities and yet You have to Type the information all over. I was able to solve my problem by writing VBA code in Excel
to fetch the data from the cd and outputs a .cdc data file that the Cover designer can use. What about people who can not do their own coding or who do not want to.
Nero Cover Designer Should Just Read the Damn CD.
Note: Up to Version 6 still can not read the CD. If you made the CD in Nero you can indeed get the data in the cover designer, but sometimes you forget to label the cd and you did not save your Nero project, or you get a cd from a friend, or you use another application like CDRWIN to write the disc.
(4) They choose to imitate Easycd creator people that caters to Beginners and idiots. Nero Should Abandon Nero Express and Nero Smart Start or allow you not to install them, imagine you install Nero Media player and inserts an audio CD up comes the windows xp autorun window with a choice of what you can use to play the CD you Immediately chooses Nero Smart Start because you want to use the Nero Media player CD-Text features up comes Smart start and does nothing Not so smart eh?
And by the way the Nero Mediaplayer is buggy reads CD-Text sometimes and Does not read it another time no matter how many times you re-read the CD.
