Nero 6.6.0.18 Copying Data DVD

vbimport

#1

Hi all,

I used Nero 6.6.0.18 to create a Data DVD. That worked great. Now, I’m trying to make a copy of that Data DVD. I’ve tried different things, reducing the speed of the dvd source drive and the dvd burner, made sure DATA DVD is selected in the menu option, unclicked “on the fly” copy option, but still the Data DVD won’t copy. I always get a read error. I don’t think that I’m doing anything wrong: I put the Data DVD into my DVD-Rom (source), the blank in the DVD burner, and then go through the DVD Copy menu in Nero, but it just doesn’t work. BTW, I’m using Verbatim 16X, DVD-R.

Is Nero capable of copying Data DVDs onto a Blank DVD? Or should I try another piece of software?

Thanks much!

The disc copy option should take care of that. If you’re getting read errors, try using your burner as both the source and destination (you’ll have to swap discs when it asks you).

If Nero still gives you an error, post it…we like to see error logs when possible, it helps out a lot

If it’s just a regular data DVD, another way is to copy the whole DVD over to a folder on your HDD in Explorer (try both drives for this, one may read better than the other), then just burn the DVD in Nero.

You original burn might be bad. Use CD-DVD Speed and do a transfer rate or read test.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Well, I just tried the method you mentioned above, using the burner as the source, and I still got a read error. I guess I could always use the second option you mentioned, copying to HD, then burning, but finding a way to copy dvd to dvd would be nice. Here is the log, Thanks much!!!:

Yeah, I think so, too. That’s kinda why I’m hoping one of the OPs drives might be better at reading!

A TRT in CD-Speed would be good, as Wobble pointed out…and if you have a BenQ or a LiteOn burner, try a Quality Scan with it.

As for the log (thanks for posting it), it definitely doesn’t like the disc. Try the second option (edit: if it works).

Then follow Wobble’s advice

#6

Hi, I just tried the utility, placing the DVD in both drives, rom and burner.

DATA DVD in the DVD Rom, I got this error: CIRC UNRECOVERED ERROR (031106)

Same DATA DVD the DVD Burner, I got this error: UNRECOVERED READ ERROR (031100)

Doesn’t look good obviously. I’m going to dump the files on the DATA DVD back onto my HD, if I can, and burn it again. Then try copies if I need them.

Thanks for the help guys.

#7

Good luck!

If you still have problems, try and find someone with a LiteOn drive (assuming you don’t use one)…they can usually read the most degraded or badly burned discs, I’ve recovered many with a Litey.

#8

I was able to read the dvd and dump files back onto my HD. I burned a new data DVD, and was then able to make a successful copy. I think that the first burn was just a bad one, as suggested above; I think I was using up too many resources when I made the initial burn, that’s why the disc was bad.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. Take care!

Nice one - now make a backup of that DVD, preferably on a different brand of disc
