[qanda]This thread is about the LG GWA-4080N. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hi,
This is my first post. What I know: The widely-available Memorex branded Ritek DL's suck. I had a spindle of Memorex from about 3 years ago and never had a bad burn with them, but as I found out, they changed their supplier to Ritek since then. If I knew beforehand, I wouldn't have bought them. But now I'm stuck with a spindle of 50 and I don't want them to go to waste.
I am getting the error I've seen others get where basically the drive can't see the second layer. I'm using ImgBurn and the error is
"Failed to set L0 Data Zone Capacity: Write Error"
"Failed to set L0 Data Zone Capacity: Invalid field in parameter list"
The burn can't progress from there, even if I push 'continue'. I've tried several firmwares for my drive from TDB, which is an LG HL-DT-ST GWA/GSA/GMA/GCA - 4080n. I've tried the GCA, GMA, and GSA versions of the original (RPC2) firmware. I've also tried using MCSE to swap the Ritek S04-066 media code from the new discs with other Ritek ones in the original firmware.
No luck so far. Same error every time.
My question is, has anyone had luck with any of the LG firmwares for that drive or has anyone been able to successfully swap the media code for Ritek S04-066 into one of them? I'd really hate to throw away 50 (albeit crappy) DL discs.
I can post with DVD Identifier, MCSE, or ImgBurn stats upon request.
Thanks, and I promise I'll buy Verbatim from now on!
