Need help with burn issues

Hi my name is Chris and I am new to dvd burning. I bought an io magic internal dvd±rw/±R 16X several months ago and have attempted to burn home video to dvd without success. I have tried using both Nero and Roxio easy 6. I got to the point where I created iso images with the movies and attempted to burn on several diferent brands of dvd -r and dvd -rw media. The drive would begin the job but fails either after a few minutes or fails near the end. A log file is created, but I have no clue what to do with these. Is there anyone on this planet who can analyze these logs?
In frustration I went out and bought a Pioneer DVR-110D, but this seems to make no difference at all. So, now I own two burners, but the only one who feels burnt is me!
 Does anyone have any sugestions?
TIA for any help…
Chris

Use dvd identifier to find the media code on your blank disks and post it. Also, what is the specific error it give when it fails? Attaching the nero log to your post might help too. Be sure to remove your serial number from the log (I think it is contained at the top of the log). The log is just a simple text file and can be edited in notepad.

Sure. Here is the output from Disc Id and one log file.

If you have successfully created an ISO you might want to try

http://www.imgburn.com/

Acording to nero, a power calibration error is caused by one of three things, bad media, a defective drive, or not enought power. I would say that a defective drive is not the cause as you are having problems with two diffrent drives. Bad media wouldn’t be my first guess either as you say you have tried several brands of media on two diffrent drives, plus the media that you identified is taiyo yuden, which is considered by many to be the best. It is possible that your drive doesn’t like ty, but not so liklly that two drives wouldn’t like it. Fyi that is 8x media you have, I’m guessing that you tried to burn it at 4x because it was failing at 8x?
That leaves power as the most liklly cause. Does this sound like the case? You have a brand name, prebuilt computer (dell, gateway, sony etc) and you have done some upgrading to it. It is very common for prebuilt computers to have power supplys that are just barlly big enough to run what is in the system (its cheaper for them to build them that way). Also, prebuilt computers often use power supplies that are not of the best quality. If that is the case, look for a label on the power supply and post the information on the label (a photo would be great if you have a digital camera but it has to be low res (under about 100k) to post here. Also, what were the specs of your computer when you bought it, and what have you added/upgraded since including anything hooked up usb/firewire as that does pull power from the computer.

I’m in 100% agreement with ripit. I don’t believe it’s the G02’s but lets ask this. Is your media branded or unbranded? And have you tried any quality +R media? Before I go all the way with the power supply routine, I’d want to see what +R media does for you. But if that fails, I.M.O. it has to be the PS.

Here’s some more info on the Power calibration error. Click here

Some drives don’t like -r media and some don’t like +r (and some like both). It’s defanatlly not a bad idea to try some +r if all you have tried is -r. It wouldn’t hurt to check the power supply label soon though too (incase it is obviously way too small). You can trouble shoot the power supply to a point without replacing it. diffrent media would be the easiest thing to try though.

Guys. The power problem was a very good call. I am having the same issues with +R media. I have my system plugs into an e-cheapo suge protection system. I tried moving the plug into the wall and I can suddenly burn dvds.
Many thanks for your diagnostic skills!!

Hey Chris… Good deal, we’re making progress. But I still would strongly suggest looking into a better power supply. I hate to hear of anyone running without any surge protection. Your asking for trouble there. :iagree:

Surge protectors as well as the power supply in your computer are very important. If your power supply inside your computer isn’t that great or too small, it liklly wont provide stable voltage. Not only does that make the system unstable, it can cause premature falure of any of the parts in your system. Likewise, a good surge protector (or beter, a ups) is also very important. Power through the power lines in the US is not very constant and voltage spikes (caused by the electric company, not lightning or anything) happen all the time. They can slowlly damage your internal power supply. Some other countries are even worse as far as the quality/stability of the electricity they get. A surge protector/ups is the cheapest route to protect much more expensive equipment from falure, even from every day voltage spikes.

I know something about burning dvd but i first need to know this
1 which burning software do you got
2 what dvd do you got
3 what burner do u use
I use the program dvd decrypter. I have burned quite a lot of movies that i have and it works great without problems and i use the burner that came with the computer

Hey Fire… To whom are you asking this question?

Hi again. Yes I do plan to ugrade my ps. I have heard though that you can’t just buy one off the shelf without case moding…

Hey Chris…Not necessarily. If your in the States, go to www.newegg.com. From what I recall, they give you the dimensions. So pending what type of case you have, you should be able to come up with a pretty close match. Maybe have to re-route some wires but it shouldn’t be anything major. Just keep your wires neetly tie wrapped and out of the way the best you can so you don’t restrict any air flow.

Hi Chris,
Try using this method and see if it works. I use only Sony blank Dvds and have had almsot perfect results. Buying a good brand blank media or a cheaper brand makes a big difference. So that is the first thing make sure you are doing. Next get “Dvd Decrypter” and “DVD shrink”, both software programs are free. You moght already have these, Don’t use Nero or Roxio to burn discs unless your doing data. I was using Nero for movies and had man errors problems like you are having. Try this after you have decrypted the dvd and are stting up for a shrink and burn set up in dvd shrink to create an ISO file abd then burn a disc with dvd dycrypter. I have been using this method for 4 months now and have burned perfect dvd’s each time. Hope it works for you.

HI everyone

Many thx in advance

Have you tried using a dvd+r or only +rw’s?

Hey ripit & problemkid… If I’m not mistaken, I think we need to be looking at this. CdRom0: SCSIStatus(x02) WinError(0) NeroError(-1502)

Hey problemkid… I think this may be your problem. (Physical memory : 511MB (523756kB)
Free physical memory: 109MB (112040kB)
Memory in use : 78 %)
Your running pretty short on memory. See if you can free up some or add some and make sure nothing is running in the background while burning or ripping. Even an Anti Virus program can screw things up with this small amount of memory. Also I didn’t see what media your using but make sure it’s quality media.
