Pioneer and Sony have announced that their DVD recorders seems to contain bugs that could stop the devices from function properly. The companies will repair the devices for free:
Japanese consumer electronics makers Pioneer and Sony said on Monday they had discovered software glitches in DVD recorders sold at home and abroad and would repair the machines for free. |
Pioneer said 50,000 of its DVD-7000 recorders sold at home and 9,000 recorders sold abroad, mostly in Europe and North America, were affected by the glitch, which could cause the machines to stop functioning.
A Pioneer spokeswoman said the cost of the repairs would not affect the company's earnings targets.
Sony said it would fix 5,400 RDR-A1 model DVD recorders sold in Japan, which were manufactured by Pioneer on an original equipment manufacturing basis.
ZDnet also reports that sales of DVD recorders in Japan last year totalled a modest 131,000 units, compared with 1.58 million DVD players.
