Please help me…

Im looking for a new CDRW Combo, and have decided on two ones but cant decide on the final one.

The ones are

LG 48x24x48x16 Manu… GCC-4480B

or

Samsung 48x24x48x16 Manu…SM-348

Both priced the same but the LG is liked by CLONECD. It gets two sheep on both Buffer & EFM. The Samsung has not been tested on it.

But the Samsung has a 8meg Buffer.

So which one do i go for ? LG is tested with CLONECD but the Samsung looks a good buy (Will it work as well on CloneCD)

I use CLONECD and Winoncd 5 (works well with SONY CR140e & CyberDrive CW038 that i have), but a new case needs to have only 1 drive for the CRW & DVD.

Please help me Boys & Girls

by combo do you mean burner and dvd player?
I am now personally a fan of Lite-on. And I dont know what price range you are looking in but lite-on’s are very inexpensive. At least here in the states they are.

can’t find internal lite-on combo myself. at least not at newegg etc.

as for samsung vs. LG. i just bought 3 samsung’s exactly the drive you mentioned, and they are going back. i read good reviews, and read good user opinions, but once i got the drive, i had some problems. upon further research, it looks as if there are too many problems for me to want to keep them. first, they didn’t like to burn any of my media at 48x, which burn just fine with no errors on my Lite-on. fine, picky burner, i coudl live with that. so max it would ever burn was 24x. so i burned several cd’s at 24x, and they are unreadable. any audio cd i burn, will not play in any rom or player. the only cd i got to work was a test copy of some software. even then i’m not sure if it was perfect or not.

tried updating to the latest firmware, no go, made it even worse. so, i’m returning them, not even going to take a chance, as two of these drives will be going into a friend’s house, and i don’t want to be tech support.

EDIT: just checked newegg, and they do have the liteon combos. i was gonna return the samsungs and get LG ones, but i love lite-ons, so i’ma grab these instead.

I think it’s a little early to buy a Lite-On CD-R/DVD-ROM combo drive. Not all media are good with Samsung and LG writers but there are some media that work well with them for most times. Lite-On will catch up with Samsung and LG only from 2004 or later in this area.

yeah, well i don’t think they have much to catch up with the samsung. i know many have had good luck, but the 3 i had were all buggy, same symptoms. i suspect lite-on will do good, as their burners are so good, these can’t be half-bad. i’ll do some tests when i get them, and report back. i can compare them to samsung and lite-on regular burners i do have.
