Can someone please offer a bit of advice. I’ve decided to sell my 2 month old Plextor Premium because I can’t put off buying a DVD burner any longer.

I am lost as to which to buy. I’ve looked at the Plextor 708 and the Lite-on 811, but there also others(although I’m partial to those 2 brands). Can anyone make a suggestion. Advice from this forum has always been dead on, so please drop a quick reply. Thanks !!!

My short answered advice.

If you are going to be using the drive as the reader and burner go with the 811S.
If you are going to be using a DVD-ROM drive as the reader then you might want to go with the NEC 2500A. Although I still would stick with my 811S over the 2500A

Check the great reviews by OC-Freak here.

You also might want to read the last few pages of this sticky at the top of this forum

Sorry, I should have put a bit more info. I have a lite-on for reading dvds and cdr’s. I will be needing to burn dvd’s and audio cd’s as well using Feurio.

Check out the C’t scans/quality rating (thread link) and the BenQ got some good scores. On Kypermedia if its made in Malaysia its BenQ and can be firmware flashed by BenQ if its made in China its Cyperdrive. OfficeMax has Kypermedia for $110-40 MIR = $70 till 3/5.

Also the Pioneer 107 rated well except for 8x plus media but it also had an old firmware.

$128 at avlogic

BUY NEC 2500A or Plextor 708A.

They are the best.
But I like NEC better because it’s cheaper
