If I think I understand your question, you’re asking if a dedicated CD burner is better at writing CDs than a DVD burner. Is that correct? If so, then the short answer is, yes. In general, a CD burner will be better at burning CDs than a DVD burner with CD burning capability.
And of the available dedicated CD burners, the ones made by Plextor are the best, particularly the Plextor Premium and Premium II.
Now, having said that, there are some DVD burners that are also good at burning CDs. A few models that could be recommended for CD burning:
- Pioneer DVR-115D & DVR-215D
- Optiarc AD-7200A & AD-7200S
- Plextor PX-760A & PX-755SA
Samsung drives are also known for being good CD burners, so I think you should be OK with using your SH-S202J to burn CDs. There’s no need for you to go out and buy a Plextor unless you absolutely have to have the best. The Samsung should do a good job.
As for the media to buy, that would depend on what part of the world you’re in, but in general, Verbatim or Mitsubishi brand media is the one that most here recommend.
