I have an A03, so I know about dvd burners.

Although I am not up-to-date on the new technology.

I wanted to know what yall thought about a dvd burner that will need to be dual format.

Here is my criteria in the ranking order.

1)Needs to be able to burn to MANY different brands of media. (dual format)
2)Needs to have the newest features to backup dvd’s
3)Speed is not a major concern
4)under $250
5)overall quality
6)cd burning is not of major concern, but appreciated

I know plextor makes a good one, PX-708A,
Nec makes the 2500a
Lite-on 811s

Also a possibility is to wait for the dual layer burners. Although I really dont want to wait for those (3 or 4 months would be ok though)

Thanks guys I really appreciate it

Go for the Plextor first, then the Lite On 811S.

Both are DVD±RW Compatible.

Hmm I’d stick with the Pioneer 107 or the Nec 2500a. These drives both offer great media compatibilty and give good burn results, even on low quality media.

You can read lots about these drives in the subforums Nec and Pioneer of this forum.

And of course… if any questions remain, feel free to ask!

Thanks guys, I much appreciate the responses.

Now that I have thought about it more, I am thinking I will wait for the release of a dual layer burner.

I really dont want to wait for 6 months though.

Has anyone heard any good news on one being released anytime soon.

I know about Pioneer using an A06 recently to burn dual layer.

Another concern is that The dual layers wont burn to regular dvd-r’s

They prolly will cause 90% of computer stuff today is backwards compatible.

Thanks for the help guys,
Force

I highly suspect that a dual layer burner will come out in a few months. My guess is that it will come out within a year(after 6 months). They won’t update A06/a07 to burn dual layer.

Buy in the order of the following: 1. NEC 2500A 2. PLEXTOR 708A 3. Pioneer A07 4. LITEON 811

Thanks everyone,

and giggy, I love straight forward answers like tha, much apreciuated. I will look at all those burners, although like you said I hope a dual-layer comes out soon.

One issue to think about.

I know that with most new technology you dont want to buy the first edition.

BUT, the A03 was one of the first burners, and the thing is rock solid even today.

So, If pioneer comes out with a dual-layer soon, I think I will ahve to buy it.
