Nec3500 Help?

I recently bought this NEC drive, and I tried to test READ speed whit diferent DVD media…
And different speed wont exceed 10,5 X with any DVD(rom or RW)…

Drive works on Udma mode ? (Is thos OK?)

I will attach DVD speed graph…

I have AMD 2200+, Mother board MSI Turbo 2.
384MB pc133 RAM…

WDC 80 GB, 8mb buffer…

???

Maybe second IDE port do not support more than 11mb/s or sth like that…

Maybe my NEC3500 iz bad manufactured ???

Test media is " Platinum 8X minus.
Princo 4X minus
And one original DVD ROM…

Graph is the sam for all media:

Your NEC is not “badly manufactured”, it is simply not running in UDMA 2 mode like it should, but in MDMA 2 mode, which restricts max. transfer rates to ~10x. Read the sticky FAQ thread for details.

I already checked… IT DOES work Multi-Word DMA Mode 2???

I use 40 — cable…

Maybe 40 wire cable does not support UDMA mode ???

Yo-

#1=set to UMDA 2 mode

#2=use 80 conductor cable

#3=Use “Master” and “Slave” jumper settings NOT “Cable Select” for ALL your drives

#4=use good media like Taiyo Yuden 8x in either - or + R’s

Mike

The 40 conductor IDE-cable supports UDMA-2 mode alright.

yes 40 pin cable supports udma 2 … eveyone says use 80 pin but that is bull… I have 40 pin and write 16x no problem… the internal cabling on the 3500 is only 40 pin anyway…
to go udma 5 you need 80 pin but not udma 2…

maybe both the dvdrom and hard drive are on the same channel that can also cause performance problems if your controller or motherboard is not up to the challenge

I bought today 80 wire cable., and no changes…

I tried everything…

Originaly on the same cable iz LG16X CD burner…

I tred just only NEC on second IDE alone, and there is stil MDMA mode

What to do???

what ide controller/motherboard are you using… have you tried going into the ide setup under device manager and changing it to udma… that is definately your problem…

Yes I tried everything but on secondary IDE channel it is allways MDMA…

Now I replaced HDD disk drives on IDE 2 channel… and NEC on IDE prime…

And now NEC is recognised at UDMA mode 2, and everything works fine!!!

Shoul I remain that on this way… is it wrong when HDD is on Secondary IDE channel…

I have any problems yet…

My motherboard is MSI Turbo 2

Kt133

Why It does nor recognize nec UDMA on secondary IDE

velikigrizli, only precise questions will give precise answers!

Do you have a K7T Turbo-2…? Then go to your manufacturers homepage and VIA (or VIA Arena) for the appropriate drivers!

Use your google, and please read the manual first!!! (can also be d/l from MSI).

BTW, Nero Info Tool can come handy.

yes it is a problem now if your hard drive is not running udma 5… if it is on the secondary ide channel than no it is not a problem… otherwise it doesn;t matter which channel it is on…

Pinto 2 … I downloaded all latest drivers
