I’m at my wits end here. I bought these discs because they we so highly recommended. I burned ten of them but even while it is possible to select up to a speed of 16x Nero, Alcohol, DVD Decrypter, burn at max 4x. Does anybody have an idea what could be wrong? Does anybody have a solution? It will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I tried Liggy’s and Dee27 latest, Herries, TDB, Quickee and an original firmware, all worked at only 4x

I’m totally flabbergasted

the descriptors show 16 possible not sure why you say 4x. if it is the speed that it actually burns at you have dma issues.

#3

Mine burn at 16x with 2.16 and 2.18 NEC FW and shrink/nero. Check all your hardware settings.
master / slave
DMA
digital audio
Bios setup
current Nero/software
driver update at windows update site
Bios flash to current bios

Wierd, the IDE Primary and Secondary give Ultra DMA mode 0 (I remember this was 5 before I reinstalled windows) I see now why this can be a problem:

UltraDMA Mode Cycle Time
(nanoseconds) Maximum
Transfer Rate (Mb/s) Defining Standard
Mode 0
UDMA-0 240 ns 16.7 Mbps ATA/ATAPI-4
Mode 1
UDMA-1 160 ns 25.0 Mbps ATA/ATAPI-4
Mode 2
UDMA-2 120 ns 33.3 Mbps ATA/ATAPI-4
Mode 3
UDMA-3 90 ns 44.4 Mbps ATA/ATAPI-5
Mode 4
UDMA-4 60 ns 66.7 Mbps ATA/ATAPI-5
Mode 5
UDMA-5 40 ns 100.0 Mbps ATA/ATAPI-6?

Wierd, I will try switching te primary devices tot secondary and vice versa.

:frowning:

Still the same problems, now trying to get te bios settings right. Multi Word DMA mode 2 works also at 4x seems a little bit less stable.

I’m so not believing this. I got a few new pieces of hardware. And installed the NEW IDE cable with those products. And I just put the old ones back and guess what. Ultra DMA mode 2 on both drives an 4 and 5 on the hard discs. So it were the IDE cables all along. Be warned! http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html for info!!
