NEC Display Solutions Ltd exhibited an LED-based projector whose brightness is as high as 2,000lm at InfoComm 2010, which runs from June 5 to 11, 2010, in Las Vegas, the US.
The company claims that it is the world’s brightest LED-based projector. The projector uses RGB color LEDs as a light source. And multiple LED units are used for each of the three colors to increase the brightness.
In addition, the new projector has a wide color gamut, capable of displaying 98% of the color gamut defined in the Adobe RGB standard. According to NEC Display Solutions, a normal front projector can display a little more than 60% of the color gamut.
Though the company did not disclose the technologies used to realize the projector, it said that the temperature control of LEDs and the adjustment of white balance were the most difficult challenges.
Currently, NEC Display Solutions does not have any plan to commercialize the projector. But the company intends to further increase its brightness to 3,000-4,000lm, which is the brightness of normal consumer projectors.
