NEC / Optiarc Optical Drives table by Blackened2687 & czary2mary

I’ve made a table with some info about NEC and Optiarc drives like the one I’ve posted in LiteOn forum section. It focused mostly on drive clones and contains the info about optical pickup units (OPUs), almost all Optiarc info was gathered from the real drives and almost all info about OPUs in older NEC models was contributed by czary2mary - thank you very much for it!

So, here is V1.3.2 of the table! [PDF, ~60KB, updated 26 July 2015.]

If you will notice any mistake or want me to add more info, please tell me about it in this topic or via PM.

Mod note: If PDF isn’t your thing, an image (PNG) version of the table may be added upon request. Just ask in this thread. -Albert

Good work blackened2687 - this will be very useful.:clap::flower:

The BD-5300S is there, but I can’t see the Sony BWU-500S. [Although it might be my bad vision.]

I might be worth adding a couple of notes regarding the AD-5280/7280S drives.

There are two different hardware versions of the AD-5280/7280S, firmware is not interchangeable. (Identifiable by EEPROM code, final 1st generation fw 1.01b). I think this was also the case with the AD-5200/7200S (but not the PATA version?).

Also, it might be worth adding a note about the -CB PLUS & ROBOT versions of the AD-5280S.

P.S.
Hopefully Albert will make this thread a sticky. :flower:

P.P.S.
If anyone has the time, it might be worth creating a version of the table which can be saved as an image/screenshot and embedded in the post for quick viewing (like KTL’s Lite-On table here).

Sorry for very late answer - very busy on my job so I even barely have time to sleep.

Ibex, since BD-5300S is iHBS112 clone, I’ve left “clones” cell empty for this drive - Sony BWU-500S is listed in my LiteOn table with other clones of iHBS112.

About 5280/7280/7283 - notice that I’ve listed TWO different pickups in “OPU” cell for these drives - SF-DS1XD (1st gen) and SF-DS1X1 (2nd gen). AD-x28x drives with different pickups have different boards as well and the pickups are NOT interchangeable in this case (trying this will burn (literally) the flat cable connecting OPU to mainboard). Probably I should note it somewhere in the table…

Also I’ve listed two different OPU models for AD-x20x drives and in this case boards for different pickups are different as well. For AD-x17x - boards are same, different pickups are interchangeable (and SF-DS17S is much reliable than SF-DS10HG and burns with much better quality, especially at 18x speed).

As for -CB PLUS & ROBOT versions of the AD-5280S - these are special versions of the drives with slightly modified tray (if I’ve understood correctly) but the hardware (board and OPU) should be same as in 1st or 2nd generation AD-5280S - please correct me if it’s a wrong information.

czary2mary, thank you very much for new information - added it to the table. Except of Memorex clones - if somebody will help me to make the full list of Memorex internal DVD drives I will really appreciate for this

Albert, please update the first post with attached table.

Changelog:

 • Removed that wicked Teac DV-W5600S clone (?) from the table
 • Added ND-3650A and ND-4650A drives
 • Added Mad Dog and TDK clones
 • Added new OPU info from czary2mary about ND-3530A and ND-1100A/1300A - thank you very much!

The table is almost completed - need to find the info about ND-3650A / ND-4650A drives and to add more info about HR-1100A (found in Toshiba HD-A1 HD DVD player) and BR-5100S / Sony BDU-X10S BD-ROM drive.

[obsolete table removed]

I’m at work and don’t have access to my account at CDRinfo at the moment, I will be at home 20.03.2015 and will read PM

By the way, how have you figured out the model name of OPUs in these drives?
