NEC/Optiarc AD-5540A on Samsung P28 Laptop

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me?

I recently brought a NEC Optiarc DVDRW for my Samsung P28 laptop, and I cant get it to install or be found by my laptop at all. I’ve reformatted my hard-drive, updated BIOS, and run the add hardware wizard several times, but to no avail. The drive isn’t being found in BIOS, and I have switched my drives whilst my laptop is on to get it to work, and that hasn’t worked neither. If anyone can help I’d be really grateful, I’m getting to the end of my tether with this thing!!! :a

Many Thanks

Maybe your Optiarc needs a firmware to be set in slave mode.
I guess you need a desktop PC and a slimdrive IDE cable to change the firmware.

That’s because your laptop have a slave connections for the optical drive, and not a tipical master.

But the experts might have a better explanation for your problem.

You don’t need to flash the firmware, but there’s a tool available to change the ATA mode. However you will probably still need an IDE adapter and a desktop PC.

Thank you for that… as soon as I source a cable…(god knows where from!) i’ll give you guys an update… fingers crossed!
