This is my first post, so please bear with me. I have had my Dell Inspiron 9300 for a few months - I've had issues with my DVD writer since day one - it will read audio CDs, and movies, but it can't write. It has attempted to do so several times, and I thought my photos were saved, but when I put the DVD back into the drive to back up more photos, it was empty. It's weird because it showed that something had been burned, but it said that it was empty. At other times, I get a message telling me that I have photos that need to be burned to my CD, at other times it tells me that my media is full when there is nothing on it, and today in Windows Media Centre, it didn't even recognize the drive.
I spent 2 hours on phone with Dell tech support, but nothing worked. He had be do some diagnostic stuff which showed that the drive is functioning properly - it passed all internal tests. He had me delete the upper and lower filters, and I uninstalled Sonic (or as much as it would let me), but this didn't work either. He is sending me a CD with Sonic software on it as he says that the software drivers available for download from Dell Support, aren't the full version? Not sure what that is about.
At this point, I am VERY angry as I have 1200 photos in my laptop of my daughter that I can't back up - can't send to my other email account as they are too big (have an 8MP camera) and can't upload to my Epson Photo Center site either for the same reason. I feel so hopeless - Dell basically said I have some serious software issue, but I'm not sure they know how to fix it.
What should I do? I've been researching this on the Net all day, and my head is hurts! It seems that Sonic DLA is a big problem - not sure why Dell puts this stuff in their computers if it causes so many problems?
Looking forward to any and all suggestions or tips. Thanks, Tiger
