The 3520A seems to be a fine DVD burner. It makes very good quality burns. I can burn Taiyo Yuden Fuji 8x media at 16x and still get very good scans.
As a DVD burner, it's great!
However, as a CD ripper it cannot give perfect rips outside of secure mode. Using secure mode with C2 enabled, it rips perfectly and faster than most other drives.
As a DVD ripper, it is slower than most. Even with hacked firmware to remove rip lock it reads slower than any of my other drives.
As a CD burner, its not great. It can't burn CD media at its rated speed. 48x is a joke! I have Taiyo Yuden media rated at 48x, and some Sony media rated at 52x and it can only burn them at 32x. Not sure how they get away with calling it a 48x drive. Burn quality is okay, I haven't had any problems, but I have had 48x CDR drives for years now that can make good burns on the Taiyo Yuden media at its rated speed, so why can't this?
