NEC ND2510A and Dynex media

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me with a problem I’m having. Best Buy were having a sale on some Dynex dual layer +R’s, so I picked a bunch of them up. However, I am unable to burn anything to them. Whenever I try, Nero talks about power calibration and not being able to start disc-at-once.

Now, I remember the last time I used some DL discs (which were Philips branded if memory serves), I had a similar error and had to patch my drive’s firmware before I could burn to them. To this end, I did some digging around and used DVD Identifier and MediaCodeSpeedEdit to add the media code for the Dynex discs to the firmware and then flashed the drive. Sadly though, this didn’t work as Nero still refused to burn to the discs. FWIW, I was trying with a patched 2.19 firmware and the media code from the discs is as follows:

So yeah, I am at a bit of a loss here. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I’d hate to think I’ve wasted 50 bucks on these discs.

Welcome to CD Freaks.

Sorry to say but buying any +R DL media that aren’t Verbatim would be considered a total waste of money in most people’s eyes.

Some burners might do an OK job with non-Verbatim media but it’s rather hit & miss I’m afraid.

RICOHJPN D01 is media that is not well supported by a number of drives, especially older drives - and RICOHJPN media codes are the most faked ones when it comes to DL media.
Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL (MKM 001) still is the most compatible choice when it comes to DL media.

Try to return the media.
